In a time of challenges; Covid, Brexit, War (the morbid truth), it's important to stay connected.
From a hello at an amazing networking event, The Cook Book, I found myself feeling connected again. As a society, we've forgotten how strong a community can be. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by what feels to be a new yet old way of embracing up and coming talent.
Odd Occasions is a super dope event. For the people, by the people. Held in multiple odd locations each time, both in and out of the Birmingham area. It was refreshing to witness a night of articulate lyricists and fresh sounds; from intuitive DJs to encapsulating performers.
Created by founder Corey Cosmos, the first performances took place under a loaned marquee outside a friend's studio and it was here that Odd Occasions Entertainment was born. Cosmos' drive to create a new event platform stemmed from his rejection from booking agents.
The organic roots of this platform as well the buzzing atmosphere during captivating performances from The 33 Collective on the night aligns perfectly, giving quintessentially WolfGangesque vibes; paving a new path. And @teefordaplug AKA Thulani maintaining a consistent yet litty rhythm and flow throughout the evening.
Born in 2021, Odd occasions brought me right back to how live music used to be. Like the kind, we watch in the ever cherished blockbusters such as 8 Mile, Glitter, Dreamgirls. A time when we only had space for our vibe, our music & our art after dark. Combining talent with nightlife, connecting creatives and new acquaintances.
In the essence of staying connected, let's continue to do so. You check them out on socials at @oddoccasionsent or alternatively if you wanna have the full live experience, roll through to their next event on Saturday 2nd April. Come see the vibes for yourself.
